Wishing For Cooler Weather

Rowe-Quinn was 3 months old when I volunteered to foster him. I really wanted to pick a female from the litter of 3 that were at the founders place. But, something about this boy drew me to him.

It was his face and his personality

This is where he liked to nap in the beginning

He was special from the start

RQ was so good with the younger fosters

He never 'ran' with them though

But he gave them confidence

Taught them

and napped with them
When he was 4 months old I had him x-rayed for hip dysplasia and sure enough. The reason he wasn't running with the pups was the fact that the bones in his hips were malformed and rubbing bone on bone and it hurt.

He's pain free at this time with homeopathy and supplements, daily walks & good raw food. I'm so glad he's with me.

Too Hot To Play Outside

I was looking through my photos for puppy photos of my fabulous five! I don't have any of Sookie or Alissa and Sugar was 2 when she came to live with me. Here's Rascal:

Just a pup when he first came into rescue

It took him at least a year before he trusted me

But slowly he gained confidence

He matured & became elegant
He still shies from me if I move too fast or if he thinks he's in my path. But funny! Yep he's a goofy boy and I love him.

My Own Personal Dog Park

The piece of property is owned by one man that is hardly ever home. The property is fenced and is a wonderful alternative to bicycling with my dogs. They can run, sniff, explore, smell grass, eat Hackberry tree leaves (I'm not sure why they like those, but they do).

Rowe-Quinn
Below, just to give you an idea of the size of this yard. It's almost a whole lot sitting on 3 lots.
We don't have grass in our puny yard, so this is really a treat. The only real down-side is there are fleas over here.
Rowe-Quinn enjoying the grass.
So, I've treated once with diatomaceous earth and will do it again before we go over there again. Sugar especially enjoys exploring the balconies of the uninhabited apartments.

Sugar loves stairs

Quinny never really runs-just trots really fast

Rowe-Quinn Is Six Years Old

It was my Rowe-Quinn's 6th birthday on the 24th of February. Six years doesn't seem like very many years, but he's a trip.

From this goofy looking bespectacled little 4 month old pup that cried so hard after being neutered you would have thought they were torturing him.
He's been with me through 2 husbands and we're on my 2nd boyfriend now. He's traveled from Texas to Louisiana and back with Sookie, Alissa, Rascal & me. He was a wonderful puppy sitter. Now he's just a little bit grumpy and picks fights with Rascal who can take him and has caused him considerable pain. But Rowe-Quinn is a great dog that endures his bad hips with Glucosamine, fish oil & baby aspirin. We occasionally try homeopathy to help his own body deal with the deteriorating hip bones. And, it mostly helps. He adores his walks and trots peacefully along side me on my bike. He's been a 'talker' since he first came to live with me and that is always a joy. I'm hoping we have quite a number of years together as he definately has MY heart.

Having Jet Is A Job

Jet is an adoptable, adorable young puppy, about 6-8 weeks of age and weighs just about 9 lbs. I am fostering him until he finds a wonderful home! I believe he's a German Shepherd mix, but I'm just not so sure of what he may be mixed with. He's black/brindle with beautiful pricked up ears and the sharpest little puppy teeth. His profile seem Chow Chow like, but he's soooooooo tiny. He has no black/purple splotches on his tongue that can sometimes be characteristic of Chow Chows. I'm sorry to say he doesn't have puppy breath (dern it), which makes me wonder if he's really that young.

Jet has a bit of an upper resperatory infection picked up at TLAC in Austin, Texas. That'll clear up quickly with antibiotics. He'll be neutered when he's old enough and will get his rabies shot then. He has started his puppy vaccinations though. Jet is microchipped, has begun crate training, and is trying very hard to pee and poo outside. He actually learned how to come in through the doggie door, just not out to do his business .

If you are interested in adopting Jet, please go to our website at http://gsdrescuectx.com/ for more information. We will not adopt out of the state of Texas.

Isn't he adorable!

OMG! It's a Puppy!

Well, it's true, there's a puppy in my house. I've forgotten just how much work having a puppy in the house is. My youngest dog is 3, going on 4 years old.

My dogs are worry free, perfectly house trained. They don't chew on things they're not suppose to. They do what is expected of them. Oh well, yea they may bark at passersby when I'm at work, but that's nothing compared to a puppy that doesn't know what's expected of her.

I only have Noel for one short week (she's a foster), but I'm already wondering, "why?". Why have I done this? Why have I disrupted my canine kingdom's peaceful realm? Sookie, Alissa, Rascal, Rowe-Quinn & Sugar are all wondering, "what the ~~ck?"

Meet Noel:

She's a beautiful, purebred, German Shepherd. Noel is 4-months old and frighteningly thin, spayed female. Her feet are quite large and when she walks on my pergo floor you can practically "hear" her walking.

She's a quick learner, and has all but mastered the doggie door. Now, if she could just understand that it's for going potty outside. She's fussy and doesn't really like the well-used postage stamp yard where she's residing. So, she uses the concrete.

One can only speculate as to her life before being found as a stray on the streets of Austin. She won't let me out of her sight, so crate training is a challenge. Peanut butter in a small kong toy does little to appease her loneliness when she's crated at night and when I have to go to work. It's a good thing though, for she knows little fear and will make someone very loyal and devoted companion.

If you live in the Austin, Texas area, and are looking for a absolutely adorable, smart, loving canine companion, please go to gsdrescuectx@yahoo.com and fill out an adoption application for Noel. Keep in mind she's probably going to be a very large dog and will need a lot of exercise and training.

Here's my girl Sookie warning Noel, "grrrr, I'm not into puppies",
